Steelers’ Quarterback Shuffle: Trubisky Takes the Helm as Pickett Heals, Hunt for QB3 Intensifies!

PITTSBURGH – With Kenny Pickett sidelined due to a high ankle sprain, the Pittsburgh Steelers are turning to Mitch Trubisky as their interim starter. However, with only Mason Rudolph on standby, the team is actively exploring external options to secure a third quarterback.

Thanks to the NFL’s recent rule change, teams can now have three quarterbacks available on game day without using an active roster spot. Although the third quarterback is technically inactive, they can step in if both the starter and backup are unable to play.

Before Pickett’s injury, Rudolph held the position of the team’s third-string quarterback, dressing on game days. In the current scenario, Rudolph will be active and in the backup role behind Trubisky. The Steelers are now in the market for a third quarterback, and head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that a decision will be made within the next 24 hours as they prepare for a short week against the New England Patriots.

“We’ll address that here in the next 24 hours. We’ve got options there, certainly,” Tomlin stated.

Potential options for the Steelers include signing Tanner Morgan from the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad, where he spent the summer. Other notable free-agent quarterbacks like Matt Ryan, Colt McCoy, and Jeff Driskel are also under consideration.
